The Mission is continually growing. Here are 12 of the most up-to-date facts about The Mission of Yahweh and its Residents.

  1. The Mission is one of only a few shelters for homeless women and their children in Houston.
  2. The Mission has grown to a 12-building campus in Northwest Houston.
  3. On average, The Mission has 40,224 stays. (bed & 3 meals)
  4. 40% of The Mission’s residents are children under the age of 13.
  5. The Mission operates with only 12 full-time employees, 15 part-time employees and many volunteers.
  6. The Mission serves a growing need in our community. Last year, The Mission was forced to turn away 4,900 women and children due to lack of beds.
  7. 61% of the women residents are working or enrolled in school.
  8. The average stay for The Mission’s residents receiving emergency shelter is 74 days. The average stay for residents receiving transitional shelter is 12 months.
  9. The average resident family has 2.5 children per mother.
  10. The majority of The Mission’s operating funds and in-kind donations come from individuals, churches and businesses. The Mission receives no government funds.
  11. Through a collaboration with other local resources, classes and services are provided for a variety of subjects including: job readiness, computer training, money management, education, health, etc.
  12. It costs The Mission $37 per day to house, feed and clothe one homeless woman or child.
