Programs for Women


On-Site Vocational and Educational Employment Counselor - Provides job search strategies, assistance with resume preparation, assists with research of education assistance grants and scholarships as well as other sources of educational assistance. Also guides residents in locating additional job search assistance and employers that are relevant to their job search. Residents' job search needs vary depending on education, experience, and barriers to employment.


Financial Education - The Women's Resource Center provides monthly FDIC finance classes that cover such topics as budgeting, checking accounts, credit management, etc.

Parenting – Weekly parenting classes are provided by volunteers to educate parents and parents-to-be in child development and effective parenting techniques to aid in healthy and happy families.

Character First – Weekly training in character development, building the inward values that determine outward actions, and the attitudes that improve relationships and make ethical choices.

WOWS (Women of Wisdom and Strength). This unique group serves to strengthen the lives of both current and former residents and are dedicated to making a difference by improving the lives of women and children with Godly inspiration and education relevant to building stronger families and brighter futures.

Life Skills – Houston Area Women's Center provides classes twice a month to educate and prevent residents from being victims of domestic or workplace abuse. Other issues addressed in Life Skills are health and nutrition related issues, problem resolution, and interpersonal relationships.

Job Readiness - Change Happens! provides weekly job readiness classes and job development assistance and includes resume preparation, interviewing skills, and research tips for job search success.

The Mission of Yahweh House of Hope offers shoes and clothing to residents and those who are here in emergency situations. Our primary function is to provide interview and job appropriate clothing. We also offer jewelry, skin care, make-up, undergarments and stockings to boost the self-esteem and promote confidence when seeking employment.

Computer Classes - Volunteers are available every Tuesday for a one hour class to offer beginner and intermediate computer classes such as basic keyboarding and MS Word.

Gym and walking track have been provided by volunteers and donations to The Mission.

Peterson's Powerful Women of Excellence – Janice Peterson's contribution to raising a generation of girls and women to be ladies that are accountable, responsible, respectful and self-respecting. PPWOE's mission is to produce women and young girls of character and helping them to realize their God given potential.

Chapel – Various Volunteers present Biblical Principles to enhance the quality of life of our residents.

Bible Study – Volunteer led Bible Study focusing on knowing Jesus on a personal level and developing our relationship with Him.

Houston Community Voicemail provides private voicemail accounts for each resident to receive messages from prospective employers.

Search and Memorial Assistance Ministries make their Employment Education Centers available and offers assistance with Adult Basic Education, GED courses and testing, as well as access to job training and job readiness instruction.

Change Happens! Provides information on community services to assist residents with obtaining needed health, medical and financial assistance.

MHMRA - Provides initial assessments of residents and refers them to community resources as indicated by assessment results.

The Montrose Counseling Center provides TB tests and interpretation for all new residents as well as HIV/AIDS educational information.
